  • Invitation to present

    The ISWA/APESB 2009 World Congress invites you to present a paper at this premier scientific and technical international event in the field of solid waste management.

    Full papers will be published in the conference proceedings (CD version). Some of the reviewed papers will be recommended for submission to Waste Management & ResearchJournal.

    The three-day conference programme includes sessions involving platform and poster presentations of scientific and technical papers as well as forums for dialogue on strategic and policy level issues emerging from technical discussions.

  • Papers sought

    Proposals submitted for platform presentation should fit within one of the topics presented below. Proposals for poster presentations may be in these areas or in other relevant areas.

    • Innovative waste solutions
      • challenges of the new millennium, wastes as sub products, life cycle assessment in waste management, eco-materials development, eco-design
    • Sustainable waste management
      • waste management in islands, landfilling, biological treatment, biomass management, policy and regulation, recycling, hazardous and special waste management, packaging waste, communication and social issues, waste prevention, from waste to bio fuel, refused derived fuel, health care waste management.
    • Waste & climate change
      • zero waste, carbon trade, greenhouse gas emissions, public-private partnership for waste management
    • Ibero-american symposium
      • appropriate technologies, clean development mechanisms, international cooperation, case studies
    • Waste-to-energy
      • thermal treatments and energy recovery
  • Plenary sessions

    A series of plenary sessions on leading edge topics will highlight the key scientific, technological, and legal issues of sustainable development. Presented by progressive thinkers and practitioners in the waste sector, these plenary sessions will focus on "turning waste into ideas", waste management in developing countries, public and private financing in waste management, waste management in the European Union, and international market of waste.

  • Ibero-american symposium

    An Ibero-american symposium will be held as a parallel session, focusing on global waste sector approaches in Latin-American countries, from challenges to service organisation, through innovative and practical solutions.

  • Deadlines

    Deadline for submission of abstracts - 29 March 2009
    Notification of acceptance - 30 April 2009
    Deadline for submission of full papers - 1 July 2009
    Deadline for presenters to register - 15 July 2009
